Why has UCLA decided to implement AlcoholEdu?
Although UCLA is well below the national average in the number of campus incidents related to harmful drinking behavior, we feel our students' safety and well-being is foremost in importance. As such, it is incumbent upon us to pose the question "Are we doing all that we can to fortify our efforts to minimize alcohol harm?" AlcoholEdu delivers an effective means for helping students practice safe and healthy choices. As well, it provides the entire incoming class with a common baseline of knowledge and awareness of alcohol issues, and strengthens a shared set of campus norms and expectations around alcohol use.
I don't drink - do I still need to complete AlcoholEdu?
Yes. All incoming students are expected to complete AlcoholEdu. Even if you don't drink, it's very likely that during your college experience you will know others who do. At the very least, alcohol use may be a topic of discussion among fellow students; the course includes material on managing peer pressure. As well, one of the purposes of the course is to provide the entire incoming class with a shared baseline of knowledge and awareness of alcohol issues, and to strengthen a shared set of campus norms and expectations around alcohol use.
I am a transfer student - do I need to complete AlcoholEdu?
Yes. All incoming UCLA students, including first-year and transfer students, are expected to complete AlcoholEdu. One of the purposes of the course is to provide the entire incoming class with a common baseline of knowledge and awareness of alcohol issues, and to strengthen a shared set of campus norms and expectations around alcohol use.
I'm a transfer student and I already completed AlcoholEdu for my other college and/or Greek organization. Do I need to complete it again?

I’m the parent of a student starting at UCLA in the fall. My student has no computer access because s/he is spending the summer digging wells in rural Bolivia. May I take the course for her/him, or…?
No, students must take the course themselves. Please request an extension for your student by writing to info@alcoholedu.ucla.edu; make sure to include the student’s full name.
